3d sphere passing through 2d flatland - diagram1 A Flatlander is a useful entity for discussion in mathematical or philosophical groups.
We have a physical world that we can observe, interact with and move in three dimensions, a Flatlander has only two.

The diagrams are to try to indicate how a Flatlander would experience a 3-dimensional phenomena beyond his understanding.

Imagine a 3d sphere passing through the 2d Flatland. The Flatland observer sees only a 2d circle come into existence from nowhere, grow in size and then shrink until it disappears again.

He can't make what he has seen fit his knowledge and beliefs about the limited world he lives in.
